Separating the yolk of an egg from the egg white can be quite tricky, yet is easy to master after several attempts.
The only equipment that you will need for this task is a sturdy bowl, preferably glass.
You may also use a knife to break the egg if you wish, although this is optional. It is just as easy to break the egg on the side of the bowl.
Place the glass bowl on a work surface.
Take the egg and tap it fairly hard on the edge of the bowl so that the egg cracks across the middle.
Without breaking the egg open, turn the egg so that it is standing upright in your hands, with the yolk in the bottom half shell. Remove the top half and hold it in your free hand.
Working over the bowl, gently slide and drop the egg yolk from one half of the shell to the other, letting the egg white fall into the bowl underneath and taking care not to catch the yolk on the edges of the shell.
Keep moving the yolk from one half shell to the other until all of the egg white has been collected in the bowl and only the yolk remains in one half of the shell.
Any clingy bits of egg white can be cut away from the yolk with the edge of the shell.
With only the yolk remaining in one half shell, it can then be transferred to a separate bowl.
