This salad is of French origin and combines a light and refreshing mixture of salad leaves and grapes together with a classic combination of strong cheese and walnuts. To make things easier, try to buy seedless grapes, and if you want, substitute the white grapes for black, or use a combination of the two. Watch out for the calories in the mayonnaise, especially if you are dieting.

Ingredients

  • 175g (6oz) of finely shredded cabbage
  • 115g (4oz) of diced Gruyere
  • 115g (4oz) white grapes, halved
  • 150ml (5fl oz) of mayonnaise
  • 55g (2oz) of chopped walnuts
  • 4 tomatoes, cut into quarters
  • 1 bunch of watercress

Method

  1. Place all of the ingredients, except for the watercress, into a large mixing bowl and toss well, spreading the mayonnaise throughout the salad.
  2. Separate onto plates and garnish with the watercress.
  3. Chill for 10 minutes before serving.
